A 1-year study osteoinduction in hydroxyapatite implants

Abstract

An approach to determine osteoinductive responses of bone and soft tissues by using hydroxyapatite implants in bones and soft tissues, was described. Porosity and the bone formation was studied using backscattered electron microscopy whereas the volumes of the grafts and biomaterials were studied using CT scan. Rapidly absorbing calcium phosphate (TCP) was combined with hydroxyapatites (HA) to improve porosity and resultant bone formation in cement paste (CP). True bone formation and hence osteoinductivity in HA was confirmed by fully mineralized and mature Haversian system studied by electron microscopy techniques.
