Abstract
In March 1997 Nigeria's Nobel prize-winning author and 11 other pro-democracy activists were charged with treason and ‘waging war against Nigeria’ for their alleged involvement in a recent wave of bomb attacks against military targets — further evidence, says Soyinka, of the desperate lengths to which the Abacha regime will go to silence its critics, and a warning to the international community that it's time to get tough.
