    Abstract

Visual Analitycs manages billions of data records and, in such a case, pure Information Visualization reveals its limits in terms of expressivity and scalability. In this paper we deal with the critical issue of visual clutter reduction, presenting a general framework for analyzing and reducing clutter in infovis techniques. We detail our proposal using two running examples, i.e., 2D scatterplots and parallel coordinates.
