A new and systematic method of modeling PWM DC-DC converters

Abstract

The principle of energy conservation is used to modeling PWM DC-DC converters. A new method1 of deriving circuit models of multiple switch and/or transformer PWM converters is introduced. The principle of energy conservation is used for including parasitic components into these models. Reflection rules are given, which allow model simplifications. The circuit models can be used to derive large-signal and small-signal characteristics as well as to simulate the converter performance. As an example, a procedure of modeling the PWM push-pull converter is presented.
