Abstract

This paper proposes a new diode-clamping multilevel converter topology suitable for single- and multiphase applications. The novel topology greatly reduces the number of components in the converter while also providing the possibility of capacitor voltage balance control during active power transfer. The fundamentals of operation and capacitor voltage control are presented. The operation of this new topology is verified by simulation and experiments.
