Abstract

The same structural motif but different shapes in space characterize the polymeric 1:1 complexes constructed from the isophthalate derivative 1 and the two dicarboxylic acids 2. Although both aggregates are stabilized by two pairs of hydrogen bonds between neighboring molecules, the complex formed with the longer dicarboxylic acid has a helical structure, the shorter, a planar ribbon structure.
