Abstract

A satisfactory neurobiological understanding of itch has proved difficult to reach. Bourane et al. have now uncovered a previously unrecognized spinal circuit for mechanically-induced itch and elucidated a mechanism that keeps it in check. Dysregulation of this circuit could contribute to chronic itch, suggesting a new strategy for itch relief.
