Abstract

Several challenges posed to the academics in the field of tissue engineering research that has been an emerging discipline were discussed. One such challenge is certainly spanning disciplines ranging from stem cell and developmental biology to materials chemistry and surgery. It was found that the transfer from the academic laboratory to the clinic and to widespread practice through commercial enterprises is relatively slow. The academe has been pressed to take more care in selection of clinical indications as targets in demonstrating new concepts, because of the cost and complexity of development to clinical impact.
