    Abstract

The influx of K+ into swollen mitochondria in the presence of valinomy-cin results in the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate in which approximately one H+ disappears per adenosine triphosphate synthesized. The synthesis is blocked by atractyloside but is insensitive to oligomycin and relatively insensitive to uncouplers.
