    Abstract

We develop a scenario originally proposed by Maiani, Parisi and Petrozio in which gauge interactions are not asymptotically free, and yet the theory is unified in that all gauge couplings are assumed to become large at a common energy scale. Taking this scale to be the Planck mass, 2 × 1019 GeV, and calculating to two-loop accuracy, we find α em (300 GeV)= 1 37, sin2θw = 0.22 and αQCD (300 GeV) = 0.08, assuming supersymmetric SU(3) × SU(2) × U(1) and five matter generations.
