Abstract

Spin-orbit and rotation-electronic perturbations among the D1Δ(υ=8), A1Π(υ=6), d3Δ(υ=12), and a′3Σ+-(υ=17) levels have been observed in the two-photon laser excitation spectrum of the D1Δ-X1Σ+ (8-0) band of CO. To aid in the assignment of spectral lines, both prompt and delayed spectra were recorded, by gating the vacuum ultraviolet fluorescence. Spectra have been analyzed using a weighted nonlinear least-squares fitting method. Detailed assignments and wavenumbers are presented for the D-X (8-0), A-X (6-0), d-X (12-0), and a′-X (17-0) bands, as well as mixing coefficients for the D, A, and d states. Molecular constants and perturbation parameters have also been determined. Fluorescence lifetimes were obtained for some perturbed levels, and the effect of mixing on radiative and collisional decay is discussed.
