Abstract

This chapter discusses what is known about dynein function in vivo, especially with regards to biophysical properties such as force production, velocity and travel distances, and also how such functions are regulated. Dynein frequently works in ensembles, e.g. with multiple motors and co-factors working together to transport a cargo. The chapter discusses how regulation that directly targets single-molecule properties ultimately alters ensemble function.
