Abstract
This paper, proposes a new approach for compression of hyper-spectral images that can provide a bound on the distortion introduced. The technique involves an adaptive re-ordering of the spectral components of each pixel. The proposed approach takes advantage of spatial and spectral correlations in hyper-spectral data sets, potentially leading to improved compression over standard nearly lossless techniques that encode the image spatially one band at a time. Preliminary results demonstrating the effectiveness of the approach are presented.
