    Abstract

We present the first heat capacity measurements of (TMTSF)2ClO4 in magnetic fields between 10 and 20 tesla at low temperatures. Detailed measurements of the first-order transition of this system into the 'extreme quantum limit' at 8.0 tesla are presented. Previous transport and magnetization measurements indicate that the state of the system from 8 tesla to 27 tesla is related to the ν = 1 3 fractional quantum hall state. We observe a peak in the electronic specific heat near the center of this state at 17 tesla. The implications of this anomalous structure are discussed briefly.
