Abstract

A computer particle simulation has been used for a parametric study of the operational charactertistics of the device, in order to determine the optimum design parameters. The functional dependence of the saturation efficiency on the beam energy and the ratio of the outer and inner radii of the slotted waveguide have been determined for both the π-mode and 2π-mode operation and for the N0 = 8, 10, and 12 harmonic cyclotron resonance interactions. The trajectories of the electrons in the cusp field have also been simulated numerically and used to obtain conditions for generating an E-layer. From these results, sets of optimum design parameters for different frequency and power considerations have been derived.
