Abstract
In water solution at any pH no circular dichroism is observed in the chromophore of the binaphthyl group centered at near to 220 nm but this is immediately changed on addition of either beta or gamma cyclodextrin. In either case a large circular dichroism signal appears arises from an induced optical activity comparable to naphthalene itself. With beta cyclodextrin the signal is unchanged with the time while with the gamma cyclodextrin the signal increases with a half life of near 30 hours at 6.9 pH. This observation of the induced circular dichroism and the following increase with the time shows an interesting pH dependence.
