Abstract
A general formulation is presented for treating combined forced convection, gas and/or surface radiation effects in laminar or turbulent flow in parallel plate channels of finite length. Arbitrarily prescribed wall heat generation, which can be different in the two surfaces, is treated. Without prescribing the convection heat transfer coefficient a priori the formulation results in coupled integro-differential equations for the temperature distributions of the two surfaces. The gas temperaturefield and local Nusselt numbers are determined in terms of these surface temperature distributions. Numerical results are obtained for a transparent gas over a range of surface emissivity and wall heat generation for laminar flow.
