Abstract

Optimization of the synthesis of the unsupported cobalt promoted HDS catalysts. hexahydrate and ammonium tetrathiomolybdate was studied using different solvents (water, ethanol and methanol) as reaction media. The influence of ethylene glycol (EG) used as a template on the structure and activity of cobalt promoted desulfurization catalysts was investigated. In this case, unsupported CoMoS were synthesized from the same precursors in varying H2O: ethylene glycol mixture using hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide as surfactant. From the synthesis point of view, a low amount of EG in the synthesis improved the activity of the catalyst.
