Abstract
Describes general mental health consultations and specifically, school mental health consultations. The historical foundation of school mental health consultation is rooted in the first psychological clinic. The reasoning basic to mental health consultation contains four major assumptions: (a) The consultant can alter teacher's perception; (b) alteration in teacher perception will affect teacher behavior; (c) alteration in teacher behavior will affect pupil behavior; and (d) teacher learning will be generalized to future cases. The article also discusses: the definition of mental health consultation, intervention techniques, consultation stages, and some difficulties encountered in consultations.
