Abstract
The equilibrium statistical mechanics of a next-neighbor interacting homopolymer is set up in the grand ensemble of its monomers, as well as that of noninteracting polymers. Expressions for density profile, as well as degree of polymerization and radius of gyration are obtained. Application is made to polymers in a cylindrical enclosure, with an idealized interaction, and the realm of validity of the formalism assessed.
