Contemporary views of human consciousness illuminate many aspects of music education. In this paper the cultural nature of consciousness is linked to issues of music curriculum development, multiculturalism, and musical values. In doing so, the claims made by David Aspin in the International Journal of liilusic Education, 27, 1996 are also engaged.
