Abstract

The Refugee Studies Center (RSC) at the University of Oxford hosted an important conference in the Wadi Dana Nature Reserve, Jordan in collaboration with the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE), the World Commission on Protected Area of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN-WCPA) and the WWF. The principle outcome of the Dana +10 meeting was the elaboration of a statement of concern agreed by all participants to be taken to the Rio +20 Earth Summit by Frances Ganya, the president of WAMIP as well as an MP for the Kenyan Parliament. A further statement, regarding the plight of West Bank Bedouin under Israeli occupation, was also agreed and carried to the Earth Summit for dissemination by Frances Ganya. In April 2012, the Dana Declaration +10 Conference was held, attended by representatives of the World Alliance of Mobile Indigenous Peoples (WAMIP) and other mobile peoples representatives, policy makers, researchers and practitioners from around the world concerned about the continuing marginalization of mobile peoples.
