Abstract
Linear interaction equations are recommended in various specifications for the design of biaxially bent beam columns. These are based on the performance of wide flange sections and are, in general, highly conservative. In this paper, simple interaction equations of the exponential form are proposed for the limit states design of square and rectangular hollow structural section beam columns subject to biaxial bending. The proposed equations are shown to be close and slightly conservative approximations of theoretical limiting strengths of sections. They are applicable for compact sections.
