N2 - Today's electro-acoustic music (EAM) reflects an incredible range of modes for generating and organizing sound in space and time, often resulting in works that defy traditional understanding of music itself. The robust socio-historical musical diversity of EAM, along with its still evolving nature, leaves this new music genre with a tentative semantic model to help in its study, analysis, and interpretation. Using perspectives of 20th century philosopher and music theoretician Adorno, this paper aims to addresses the need for, and challenges of, developing such a model. We also describe positive steps taken toward addressing these challenges through collaborative efforts in creating a hub for the collection, preservation, and exploration of EAM under the Electro Acoustic Music Mine (EAMM) project.
