Abstract
In this article, I review the works related to the idea that conformational entropy favors self-tightening of knots in a polymer chain. Interesting parallels and some controversies exist between theoretical, computational, and experimental works. Recent progress in the field suggests that self-tightening is a real effect, but much remains to be understood about it.
