Abstract

A report on the stability of magnetohydrodynamic plasmas was presented. The minimization of plasma energy, subject to given values of all constants of the motion, was studied. A better stability criterion was obtained by restricting perturbations, which obeyed the dynamic accessibility requirement. Dynamically accessible perturbations were considered as equivalent to Lagrangian perturbations for general equilibria.
