N1 - Funding Information: Lars C Grabow is the Dan Luss Professor in the William A. Brookshire Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Houston. He graduated with a Dipl.-Ing. degree from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and carried out postdoctoral research at the Technical University of Denmark and Stanford University. He also completed sabbatical visits the University of Ghent, Belgium, and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. His expertise is the application of density functional theory, kinetic modeling, data science and transient kinetic characterization to provide molecular-scale insight into fundamental questions related to reaction mechanisms and the nature of active sites in heterogeneous catalysis, surface science and electrochemical systems. His scientific contributions have been recognized with the NSF CAREER Award, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Early Career Award, and his election into the 2018 Class of Influential Researchers by Industrial and Engineering Chemistry (IE&C) Research. He has served the community in various leadership positions, such as Director, Secretary, Vice-Chair, Chair, and Past-Chair of the Southwest Catalysis Society, (Vice-)Chair and Social Media Director for the Catalysis and Reaction Engineering (CRE) division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE. He is currently an Editor for Surface Science, and previously guest edited the special issue for the 2019 Somorjai Award in Topics in Catalysis.
