Abstract

This is the first publication of family photographs with associated oral histories and memories shared by many members of the Emirati community. The groundbreaking bilingual (English and Arabic) multi-generational study grew out of consecutive curatorial practices courses taught by Dr. Michele Bambling at Zayed University, Abu Dhabi, from 2010-13. The photographs featured in the compilation form a seminal archive of Emirati family photographs that has since developed under the auspices of the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation.
