Abstract

Almost 20% of premature deaths are attributed to suboptimal diet [1]. The anti-inflammatory Effects of a Vegan diet versus the American Heart Association-Recommended DiEt in Coronary Artery Disease (EVADE CAD) trial (NCT02135939) was a randomized trial assessing the impact of 8 weeks of a vegan vs. American Heart Association (AHA)-recommended diet on inflammatory and glucometabolic profiles in patients with angiographically-defined CAD [2]. We sought to characterize the demographic and clinical profiles of patients who provided informed consent to participate in EVADE CAD but did not ultimately enroll compared to those who enrolled in the trial.
