Abstract

Shams, Kamitani, and Shimojo (ARVO 2000) showed that multiple beeps accompanying a single flash make it flicker. We wondered if this increase in perceived number of events improves sensitivity, as increasing the number of objects does (Verghese and Stone, 1995, Vis. Res.). We find that percent correct for discriminating a 1 deg orientation change is equally improved by doubling the number of beeps as by doubling the number of objects.
