Focusing-defocusing effects for diffusion-dominated bistable optical arrays

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The optical bistability of Fabry-Perot cavities and optical arrays in the presence of diffraction and diffusion are studied using a mathematical model consisting of a nonlinear Schrodinger equations. The bistability is found to vary for different types of nonlinearity. The performance of the model array can be significantly altered by the diffractive effects, with striking differences in performance between focusing and defocusing systems.
