    Abstract

A proposal for the focussing of term phrases in Hungarian is tested against the case of ‘bare singulars’ – which, at the first sight, appear impossible to accomodate. An alternative derivation is suggested for their case, according to which those sentences actually have the common noun part of a split term phrase in focus. It is argued that a general, compositional treatment of the relevant examples can only be given in a second order context dependent framework.
