Abstract
An insight into fractal biology regarding the protein interaction network is presented. The difference in the number of genes must be in the interactions, the networks of binding, and repulsion that gives rise to the unique capabilities of each species. The scale free protein interaction network is reminiscent of Mandelbrot's fractals or the Internet. One theory is that scale-free networks have better failure properties because mutations strike randomly at the genome, most mutations will wound proteins that interact with very few other proteins, thus are less important.
