Abstract

Single crystalline, hexagonal ZnO columns were grown from Zn vapor in air plasma. The columns grow via repeated nucleation and epitaxial growth of nanoscopic pyramids on the c-face of the host column. Homoepitaxial nucleation of pyramids was attributed to the existence of an Ehrlich-Schwoebel barrier on the (0001) surface.
