    Abstract

It is verified that the contradiction between the Gupta-Bleuler condition k ain(k)=0=k aout(k)=0 and the natural infrared-coherence condition, lim0ain(k)=-ieipi[(2)32 (Ei-pi)]-1, is present when the quantized electromagnetic field is coupled to an external classical current. A recent contention of Professor Haller is disproven by displaying the Lehmann-Symanzik-Zimmermann limit of this simple soluble model. Three different resolutions of the dilemma posed by the above contradiction are presented.
