    Abstract

Where do ideas of justice come from? How unjust are departures from perfect justice? What is the place of justice in the larger world of sociobehavioral processes? George C. Homans thought about all three of these questions, and in this chapter we honor his contributions to the study of justice by tracing the part he played and extending our evolving understanding of justice.
