Abstract

With no available cure for HIV, primary prevention to reduce the likelihood of HIV transmission and secondary prevention to reduce the severity of HIV by identifying cases early and quickly engaging people in the care continuum are key factors to reducing morbidity. Evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions are available to reduce disease incidence and disease burden. Although there are evidence-driven interventions available for people who are drug users, heterosexual adults, MSM, highrisk adolescents and young adults, and people living with HIV/AIDS, there are not currently any curricula addressing people with SMI. The next steps in HIV prevention must include disseminating and implementing evidence-based interventions to reduce HIV risk behavior, increase medication adherence, and link people with HIV/ AIDS to the care continuum.
