Abstract

The HVEM has been used to investigate the microstructure of Nb//3Sn multifilamentary superconducting wires using both transverse and longitudinal sections. Complete Nb//3Sn and bronze grains at the Nb/Nb//3Sn and Nb//3Sn/Cu-Sn interfaces have been viewed at the same time. The effects of different heat treatments have been studied and the resulting microstructures found to be significantly different from previous descriptions.
