Immobilized ligands for cell and tissue interactions

Abstract

The interaction of adhesion receptors with their protein ligands can be localized to small domains, called the cell-binding domain, on the surface of the protein. The receptor-binding activity of the cell-binding domain can be mimicked by short oligopeptides of the same or related sequence as that of the cell-binding domain. These oligopeptides have been incorporated into the surfaces of polymeric biomaterials, resulting in surfaces for the cells bear receptors directly.
