Abstract

Widespread adoption of the term “social justice” in education has been somewhat uneven, but even when embraced, the term usually goes undefined. What goes unexamined about social justice may actually bury ideas and aims not yet fully considered, or not fully aligned. What goes undefined rests upon presumed shared notions of social justice-but just an initial peek beneath the surface can reveal the tenuousness of those shared notions. This introductory chapter takes readers through this tension, and provides an overview of all the chapters in the book.
