Abstract
The authors examine the conformation of poly( alpha -methyl benzyl isonitrile). Experimental results indicate that the chemical shifts are consistent with the structure and the broadening of the resonance indicates some restriction in local chain motion. There is also clearly evident significant chemical shift dispersion as is exhibited in the expansion. This requires that the nuclei in both the backbone and in the pendant groups find access to a variety of environments, a state which is inconsistent with the strong bias toward regular conformations suggested by the literature.
