Abstract
We have investigated the phase diagram and the nature of the states for (TMTSF)2ClO4 in high magnetic fields and at low temperatures. The measurements performed are magnetization, magneto-resistance and Hall Effect. In experiments to 8 milliKelvin (mK) we have found that the onset field remains virtually unchanged from its 50 mK value of ∼ 3 Tesla. For a true two dimensional electron system the onset should continue to decrease to zero field at zero temperature. Our result is consistent with a c axis bandwidth of ∼ 10K if the density wave nests transversely along the c direction. Experiments at 0.5K in the 30 Tesla hybrid magnet at the National Magnet Lab show additional structure at ∼ 15 Tesla and at higher fields indicating the complexity of the electron spectrum in the magnetic field. There appears to be a transition from the semi-metallic to the semiconducting state at ∼ 25 Tesla.
