    Abstract

Although the political groupings in the Republic of Ireland have been seen as being without a clear social basis, a study of party support in Galway West throws doubt on that view and it is believed that this finding would also be valid at a national level. When 'sociological' classes, rather than market research categories are used, the patterns of party support revealed are strong. - J.H.Johnson
