N2 - In this work, we present a new method to efficiently transfer wax patterns from typical printer-friendly A4 paper sheets to filter paper sheets that are typical in developing paper-based microfluidic assays. The developed method is based on wetting, contacting, and heat pressing the donor A4 wax patterns sheet with the recipient pristine filter paper sheet. This work also discusses optimizations of the wax-transfer method including temperature, time, and paper wettability. Moreover, several shapes of wax patterns were performed and evaluated, and further utilized to culture cells in 3D. This new method simplifies wax printing in the field of paper-based microfluidics, and we are aiming to utilize for several projects including our efforts in paper-based 3D tumor models cryopreservation.
