Mixed convection heat transfer over a backward-facing step

Abstract

This paper presents numerical results for the mixed convection heat transfer problem over a two-dimensional backward-facing step under steady, laminar, incompressible, and constant property flow conditions with the exception of density which is treated assuming the validity of the Bousinesq approximation. The results are obtained using a simultaneous variable solution technique based on fully second-order finite difference approximations. The hydrodynamic and thermal fields are presented, for the specified boundary conditions and values of the physical parameters, in terms of Nusselt number, temperature distributions and wall friction coefficient.
