Abstract

An investigation of the modeling of autoclave processing of graphite fiber epoxy resin composite laminates was carried out. The emphasis was on the development of a model capable of predicting the temperature profile as a function of cure conditions and sample geometry. An energy balance was set up around the composite and all parameters of that equation were evaluated as a function of cure conditions. The correlations include the kinetic term and the expressions for changes in density, heat capacity and thermal conductivity as a function of temperature, degree of cure and fiber volume fraction. Excellent agreement between experimental and predicted results was noted.
