Modern Signal Processing Tools for Fetal Electrocardiogram Extraction from Single-Channel Transabdominal Maternal Electrocardiogram

Abstract

We introduce an algorithm to extract fetal electrocardiogram from the single-channel transabdominal maternal electrocardiogram. The algorithm is based on the de-shape short-time Fourier transform, a nonlinear-type time–frequency analysis tool, and optimal shrinkage, a nonlinear variation of the commonly used singular value decomposition denoise algorithm. Numerical details with Matlab codes are provided.
