Abstract

Moisture diffusion into a graphite-epoxy composite (AS4/MY720) and the effect of moisture on the glass transition temperature have been studied. The kinetics of the absorption process were non-Fickian at lower temperatures but approached Fickian behavior at higher temperatures. The effect of moisture on the depression of T//g was more pronounced at high temperatures. The observed depression of T//g could be explained by the recently proposed mechanism of water absorption into composites.
