Abstract
New developments in the state of form-fill-seal (f-f-s) for liquid packaging are highlighted here. New film structures and proven machine design have been combined to enter fresh markets. Unit-dose-drug and other portion-control pouches are seen as strong growth areas. Equipment now being designed to form, fill, seal and process retortable pouches automatically is expected to more than double current production rates. Probably the single area of liquid form-fill-seal experiencing the most change today is materials, with new and improved laminations offering better barrier properties and easier processing into pouches.
