On the self-similarity assumption in dynamic models for large eddy simulations

Abstract

The consistency between dynamic models for large eddy simulations and their underlying self-similarity assumption is discussed. The interpretation of the resolved field is shown to be fully determined by the choice of the test-filter. Consequences for comparison to direct numerical simulations and experimental results are presented.
